There has been an alehouse on the site of the Ploughshare since at least 1585, pulling its first pint when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne and Shakespeare was a boy! The oldest part of the current building dates back to 1620 and is full of centuries of memories and village tradition. When the pub had to close in early 2016 Beeston Community Enterprises Ltd. was formed with a single purpose – to purchase the Ploughshare and run it for the benefit of the village. By January 2019 the pub was purchased with just enough funds to rescue the pub from the brink of redevelopment.

With an experienced and capable management committee to guide its running, this venue is a sound choice.
